Press Release

Pentucket Regional School District Continues the Important Work of Implementing Professional Learning Communities.”

The introduction of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) in every Pentucket Regional School District school is a primary district strategic goal for the foreseeable future.  Based on the work of Rick and Becky DuFour, Professional Learning Communities strive to create a culture where instructional staff frequently collaborates to improve student work and educational practice. The desired outcome is to have every Pentucket Regional School District instructional staff member regularly analyzing student achievement data, implementing proven best teaching practices, analyzing student progress and making needed adjustments to meet the educational needs of all students.  This focus on instruction will help our district fulfill our Mission to collaborate to continuously improve students learning based on kindness and hard work

Pentucket education professionals will continually collaborate over time to learn to effectively use PLC concepts.  This work will become simply the way Pentucket achieves its success with student learning.  As has been often said, “Alone we achieve, but together we succeed.”  Professional Learning Communities give educators a clear focus to help win the “World Series” of Learning with every PRSD student succeeding.

Our school leaders recently reconvened in our second Team Building Workshop on September 6, 2007 to continue to develop the leadership skills needed to support colleagues in our quest to implement Professional Learning Communities in Pentucket.  Our leaders shared initial PLC leadership challenges and further developed skills and confidence in leading this important work.  As a group, they are working well together to lead this powerful professional culture shift.  A foundation of mutual trust and respect is quickly emerging within the district-wide team.  This trust and commitment to interdependence will be an enormous attribute to the school system as we move forward with Professional Learning Communities.

All PRSD teachers will receive ongoing Professional Learning Community training throughout the entire school year.  The Pentucket Regional School District Professional On our October 5, 2007 professional development day our objective is to build greater district-wide competence to put into practice Professional Learning Communities in our schools.  On November 19, 2007, central service administrators, 7-12 department heads, principals, elementary team leaders and other district leaders will reconvene for another Team Building Workshop to continue our work together. Pentucket Regional School District is committed to supporting PRSD professionals as we move forward with this cultural shift to change the work of learning through collaboration and distributive leadership.

We believe great things happen when teachers work together to educate children.  The district is dedicated to break down barriers and opening communication to better serve kids.  Please contact PRSD with questions on the Professional Learning Communities initiative or any other issue.
