A  NOTE TO ALL DISTRICT PARENTS FROM THE PRMS PTO

 

          For those of you who will have children attending the Middle School in ‘08/09, the MS PTO would like to welcome you and extend the available volunteer opportunities. The following opportunities will need a Chair and assisting volunteers:

 

FUNDRAISING EVENTS:

 

Magazine Drive -  Sept 2008 :   This is our primary fundraiser lasting 2 weeks.  A majority of the prep work can be done from home/online. Work involves coordinating dates w/ the magazine company and organizing volunteers needed every other day to count/verify orders and for prize days during lunch hours.

Book Fair  - Oct 2008 :   This is a week long event.  A majority of the prep work can be done from home/online. Work involves coordinating dates w/ book company and organizing volunteers to work the fair during school hours and 1 weeknight. ‘08 Chair, Laura Barry. March Madness -  March 2009 :  This is a 1 night  staff-student basketball game.  A majority of the prep work can be done at home/online. Work involves coordinating refs and volunteers needed for the night of and shopping for the prizes and concession stand.  The staff is very involved in this event and offer assistance and support. All necessary forms are compiled and avail from the PTO.

Spring fundraiser - Apr/May 2009 :  This year the PTO hosted its 1st indoor yard sale on Apr 5th. It has not yet been decided if this will be a repeat event or to try something new, all suggestions are welcome!

YEAR-LONG and ON-GOING :

 

Cultural Events  -  A chair will be needed for ‘08/09.  Most prep work can be done from home/online. Work involves researching/recommending curriculum based programs for the 7th and 8th graders and coordinating dates with the school and incoming organization. Volunteers are rarely needed. Many programs can be repeated yearly.

School Store -   A Chair will be needed for ‘09/10. Supplies need to be purchased during the summer and throughout the year to stock the store. Coordinate 2 nights prior to school opening for student supply purchases. Organize volunteers to work in the store on a daily basis during lunch hours. If you have any interest in this opportunity, you may want to the shadow the job during the ‘08/’09 school year. Detailed records avail.

School Dances -  A Chair will be needed for ‘09/10.  Dances are held the last Fri of each month. Refreshments need to be purchased and volunteers organized to sell refreshments.  The school staff handles ticket sales and chaperones. If you have any interest in this, you may want to shadow the job during the ‘08/’09 school year.

ONE-TIME , NON FUNDRAISING EVENTS -

 

Scavenger Hunt -  May ‘09  This is a one night event provided for the 6th graders of the District to come tour the MS.  Most prep work can be done from home/online. Work involves purchasing prizes, sending out flyer and organizing volunteers for the night of. MS Student Council is involved and the scavenger hunt and forms are compiled and avail from the PTO.

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast  - May ‘09   This is a one day event held from 7am-10:30 am the 1st week of May in the teachers lounge. Work involves purchasing paper products, beverages and some food. Organize volunteers for hot food donations, set up, decorating and clean up. 8th Grade Celebration -  June ‘09   This is a one night event held in the MS gym for the 8th graders.  Work involves purchasing of food and decorations. Organization of 6 or so volunteers to set up tables and decorate, approx 2 hrs. (12:30-2:30).  Chaperones are organized by the teacher staff. Decorations and detailed notes are avail from the PTO

The PTO meetings are currently held the 3rd Thurs. of each month from 7-8 pm promptly! You do not have to volunteer to be a part of the PTO or the meetings.

All of these opportunities provide a venue to connect with the staff and be involved with your kids’  Middle School experience. It’s a great place, come check it out!
