Introduction

This web page is designed for grade four students to begin a study of the solar system. Students will be introduced to the sun, the nine planets, and their natural satellites. Students will have opportunities to access sites for research, as well as to view videos and simulations.

Learning Objectives

• Students will understand that the sun is the center of our universe and that it is the source of the Earth's light and heat energy.
• Sun storms on the surface of the sun affect the Earth and communication satellites.
• Students will understand the concepts of revolution and rotation.
• Students will be able to identify the nine planets and the order in which they revolve around the sun.
• Students will compare and contrast the planets.
